DARN x Friends - Celebrating Rosa Lily James
A long valued muse, best friend and someone who is incredibly modest about her ceramics, you may recognise Rosa from DARN campaigns and photoshoots - from the very beginning to our most recent PJ release.
Known for hiding her pottery designs away, as she never thinks they are quite good enough, founder Amelia has to give her a good poke to let her see what she has been up to and every time it’s an absolute whopper.
Her time and care in the design process brings such an element of magic, which is then shared with each owner and admirer of every final piece. You should certainly consider yourself lucky if you get your hands on a Rosa Lily James pot, or two! They are GOLDDUST!
Allowing us the opportunity to share some of her most recent works, Rosa has hand sculpted a selection of pots for DARN...
Here is a little Q&A to give you an insight to Rosa.
1.Do you remember the first thing you ever made? Either as a child or when you begun exploring ceramics
I remember the first course I did, bleary eyed in the world of ceramics, my hands so unused to working in 3D, I made these tiny bowls (if you can call them bowls) and they were mini and stupid and wobbly and fell over all the time (which my bowls still do) and I remember being proud of them at the time and I love how our eyes and perception continues to warp and shift it feels so impossibly magic!
2. Do you have a favourite design of your own, or of another creative?
Vessels vessels, like a cup a sweet cup - a simple cup to hold dreams!
3. What was the last thing that made you smile/laugh?
Mostly always laughing or smiling at something or other, life is silly!
4. What is your favourite item that you own?
I’m a sentimental fool and I adore lil’ fragments of treasure, an old rock or a piece of string. But something that brings me continuous joy is a small wooden carved angel head, hand painted from Mexico, and her face is so unsure and her eyes are so wonky but she’s been my friend for a long time now and I’d be lost without her wonky gaze.
5. What did you want to be when you were younger?
A traffic warden.
6. Do you have any future projects in mind?
Got some exciting things in the works with forever fave Holly Brannigan.
7. Quick! You’re hosting a last minute dinner party - what do you whip up?
Spaghetti, it’s always spaghetti.
