How Photographer Scarlett Casciello Wears Pei-Chi Scarf

A British-Italian babe, who is fast becoming known as an up-and-coming photographer (you’ll soon find her living in New York City) I first met Scarlett Casciello during our studies at Falmouth University. First meeting as Fashion Photography students, before I transitioned onto Fashion Design, our friendship has rekindled in recent years after she met my twin, Chloe, on a job which led to us meeting up whenever I am in London. We share our own experiences and discuss the ins and outs of the fashion industry, but the conversation more often than not turns into us dancing the night away together!

It is one of my favourite joys to see friends grow through life and develop their creative careers. Scarlett’s photography work has been published by British Vogue, Vogue China, Vogue Italia, Also Journal and The Inguene.

Hopefully, you will see Scarlett more soon as she starts her new life chapter and as we continue to grow wiser together through the coming years.

Here Scarlett is, photographed on a disposable camera, wearing the DARN Pei-Chi 100% silk scarf.

What drives you in life and your work?
Depending on where I’m at in life, sometimes I’m driven by rejection and sometimes I’m driven by my surroundings and the people around me.

When you are photographing someone how do you see and feel through the lens what are you aiming to capture?
I
always try to capture emotion and power, a moment where the subject has been pushed to be the best version of themselves or that character.

Who or what do you currently take inspiration from?
At this moment in time, I’m inspired by certain women. I just finished Julia Fox’s memoir ‘Down the Drain’ and felt so inspired by her attitude to life and work. I’m always inspired by the women I surround myself with and the women before me.

What is your morning routine?
Most mornings I wake up and make my favourite shit instant coffee and go back to bed to read and try not to look at my phone or laptop for the first hour.

Do you have a motto for life you can share with us?
‘What is for you will not pass you by’ my best friend gave it to me and now I apply it to everything, as well as my own similar version of ‘What will be will be’.

Tell me about the three favourite photos you have taken so far in your life and why they are so special to you.
I love shooting the past two stories for my friend Tom’s magazine Sensored, it’s always deeply personable and he pushes me to create work that feels true to my vision, and we always just have a lot of fun in the process.

My second favourite is from a story shot in my home in Sicily, Sicilian Lemon for Manifesto Magazine. The shot came together at the very end of the day, we had been waiting for the yellow dress to arrive, and it finally did late in the afternoon. After we had broken up the day with a siesta from the scorching Sicilian heat, we bombed it to a secret beach nearby that I love and made the model Eto jump into the water as quickly as she could before the light went. It was such a thrill.
