It's Fashion Revolution Week!
It's Fashion Revolution week! @fash_rev #WhoMadeMyClothes? #WhatsInMyClothes?
So important for bringing attention to the impact of the fashion industry, discussions around workers rights, living wage and building a positive, fair future for all are encouraged in particular this week - and any day of the year! ✊
Here I am! Amelia, founder and designer of DARN seen here in a still from the recent TOAST x DARN collaboration, filmed by James Bannister. I thought it would be nice to reintroduce myself and how DARN does its thing.
DARN is based in Cornwall, where I studied and longed to return to having spent a few years working in London where I was born and grew up. My main aim is to create pieces that uplift and inspire joy and playfulness - the things that make life sweet. I wish to provide a platform for other makers to showcase their work; a curated space for DARN + Friends to play and create.
We are small in scale and everything is designed here in England. For production, the silk scarves are printed in Macclesfield and sewn in France, the Chemise collection made from antique fabrics was sewn by @makers_hq in Plymouth and for the Tonto pyjamas I connected with a wonderful family owned factory in Jaipur, Rajasthan. I am lucky enough to have found three talented hand knitters (Stephanie, Pat and Debbie) based in Wales and Hertfordshire, who create each DARN knitwear design to order.
I take the majority of photographs myself under Amelia Pemberton Photography. Film photography is a real love of mine and combined with a barley field and some pals I am in my element! I also often request snaps from wonder woman Tor Harrison 💙 which often gives us an excuse for an extra dip in the sea. Multitalented maker and water woman Emily Settle often assists on shoots whilst my virtual assistant and legendary hero, Louise Honey helps me to organise and express my mind through copywriting, web updates and newsletters.
…and that’s us! A small but mighty DARN team.
We are so grateful for your support which allows us to continue introducing made for life pieces into the world, as carefully and considerately as we can.
If you have any questions for me, please send an email, I'd love to hear from you!
