Rory Blair x DARN: Special Edition Packaging

We wanted to create a really special packaging for the collaborative Rory Blair x DARN silk scarf design.

Rory is good pals with Emily of Utter and Press whose letterpress studio is located right in the middle between my house and Rory’s studio (7 minutes in the car). The perfect person for the job to add the cherry on top of the cake of this collab!

We saw one of Emily’s newspaper papers hanging up which she uses to clean her letter press and came up with the idea of using the newspaper paper left from the clean up as our packaging paper. Using off-cut paper for the card, the colour was matched to the scarf with a gradient change in blues tones.

Emily sent us some photos during the printing process and a note that made us smile…

‘When I cleaned the treadle press, I put a newsprint on the inking disk to rub the excess away. I used to use newspapers, but found that the prints looked rather beautiful, like Moons! You can see the marks and dents and history of the press in each print.’

A limited run for a limited batch. Beautiful.
